Exploring Nature

Great gifts for outdoorsy kids

This is a collaborative post in partnership with Wicked Uncle

Are you looking for inspiration on gifts for outdoorsy kids?  This selection of fun gifts for kids is a great place to start.

If you read the blog regularly, you’ll know I’m a big fan of outdoor play for kids.  It has so many benefits; it’s great exercise, it can help to combat stress and low mood, and it’s an easy way to boost feelings of happiness.  And of course, getting the kids playing outdoors and engaging with nature is lots of fun!

Wicked Uncle have a brilliant range of gifts for children – and when it comes to gifts for outdoorsy kids, they’ve got lots of lovely ideas.  Whether you’re looking for birthday gifts for kids, Christmas gifts for kids, or just a treat or reward, there are gift ideas to suit all ages, interests and budgets.

Great gifts for outdoorsy kids

Here are my favourite outdoorsy gifts for kids from the Wicked Uncle range.

British Woodland Den Kit

Den building is a firm favourite with my kids; they love the fact that they can really let their imaginations run wild, and it’s a great way to burn off some energy.  This Den Building Kit will make it easy for them to create an awesome den; it includes a groundsheet, tarpaulin, rope, tent pegs and mallet, all packed in a sturdy haversack.  There’a also a little collecting bag and trowel, so kids can get busy finding and planting seeds once they’ve built their den.  This is definitely a gift for outdoorsy kids that they’ll want to use over and over again; I think it would make a fab addition to a camping trip as well.

GeoSafari Seascope

This GeoSafari Seascope is a great gift for kids who love exploring nature.  It’s a scientific scope with 5x magnification  that allows you to explore underwater creatures in rockpools, ponds and rivers.  There’s a built-in torch to help kids see what’s going on in dark water, plus a ruler and thermometer to record what they find.  It extends to 56cm, which means you can keep little ones out of the water (and dry!) while they carry out their investigations.

Kids Scavenger Hunt

This is a great outdoor gift for kids that also has indoor play value.  The Kids Scavenger Hunt has sets of indoor and outdoor cards, with a spinner to add an element of surprise.  I like the fact that some items have the option to take a photo with your phone rather than collect the actual thing; this is definitely a good idea for some of the interesting things kids can find outdoors, and a great way to protect nature too.

Grow It – Rainbow Veg

Get kids gardening and encourage those little green fingers with this fun Rainbow Veg grow you own kit.  There’s everything you need to grow a rainbow of colourful veggies, including pots, seeds, compost discs and growing instructions.  This is a good way to tempt kids to eat their veggies, and also a really nice introduction to growing plants from seed.

Caterpillar Greenhouse Kit

Another nice option for a grow your own project, but this time with a pizza theme that kids will love.  This wiggly Caterpilllar Greenhouse Kit allows you to grow your own basil, peppers and tomatoes, and includes a pizza recipe to put your harvest to good use.  Kids will be able to use the greenhouse again and again to grow their own plants too.

Hungry Bug Eating Plants Grow Kit

If you’re looking for outdoor gifts for kids with a bit of gross factor, this is ideal.  With the Hungry Bug Eating Plants Kit they can grow their very own carnivorous plants, then watch what happens to bugs who get too close.  There’s also a bug puzzle booklet to explore which is great for creepy crawly fans.

Walkie Talkies

A pair of Walkie Talkies has so much potential for outdoor (and indoor) fun.  Kids can stay in touch while they’re exploring, have secret conversations, give clues during a game of hide and seek, or use them for imaginative role play.  This set has a range up to 6km, built-in flashlights for night adventures, and belt clips for hands-free play.

Waboba Wingman silicone flying disc

Sometimes the simplest outdoor games for kids are the best, and this Waboba Wingman silicone flying disc is a great example.  It’s soft and flexible which means you can catch it easily, and it flies up to 40 metres – perfect for some fun in the park or at the beach.  It also folds up and pops straight back into shape, so it won’t take up much room in your bag an you can even fit it in a pocket.

Jumbo Octopus Kite

Who doesn’t love a kite flying session?  This colourful Jumbo Octopus Kite is an impressive 4 metres long, with rainbow tentacles and extra-long line.  Definitely one for windy days and kids who need to let off some steam!

You can find all of these gifts for outdoorsy kids, plus lots more to inspire your gift shopping, over at Wicked Uncle.  Which is your favourite?
